Big Hill Nordic is a Winter trail system groomed for Nordic skiing. The trails are located about 7 miles from downtown Challis. Big Hill Nordic is maintained by volunteers associated with CCTA, under an agreement with the National Forest Service.
The 2024-2025 Winter season was our first season of operations. During this initial season we kept the trail system small, to allow us to develop our grooming system and groom regularly to provide the best possible skiing experience for users.
For the 2025-2026 season we have enlarged the trail system, improved our grooming operations, and opened a ski gear lending library (located at The Bent Rod in Challis). We plan to offer basic ski instruction and sponsor some fun events.
In future seasons, we plan to continue expanding the trail network and spreading the word in the community to get more people on skis!
To make all this happen, we are actively seeking additional volunteers, trail users, and donations.
